Media Summary

Opportunities that excite me within the journalism career field are the various paths one could take. Through my time at UNLV studying journalism, I have developed skills in writing, video, photography, design, and social media. As technology and social media become more integrated into our daily lives the definition of being a journalist continues to change. I am someone who has multiple interests and having the chance to explore all of them within one profession is inspiring. It allows me to be able to create endlessly through different mediums.

The use of social media as a newsworthy source is a prevalent problem that I have seen within journalism. The accessibility of social media has allowed users to post information and label themselves as journalists without doing the proper research. This leads to people creating spectacles for clicks instead of reporting actual news, known as clickbait This creates many issues, such as misinformation and a decline in trustworthiness.

I would like to make a change by telling the story of those who are not represented in the media. I want to use all the skills I have learned over the years to make those who are not listened to heard. I want to make people aware of the beauty that is rarely seen, the injustices that are seldom noticed, and the accomplishments are never celebrated.
